2 Tips To Stop Dog Gas

No one wants to talk about dog gas. It ranks right up there with discussing your own hemorrhoid problems. But if you never talk about, you'll never know how to get help with it, right?

Well, we adopted a one year old mastiff mix (100+ lb) a little while back. And with her came, you guessed it, dog gas. Now, I don't know if it was her size or just her body chemistry, but she could literally clear a room with her (shall we say it nicely) dog flatulence!

Want A Cure To Dog Gas, Then You Need To Ask Around

At first we laughed, we had never experienced a dog farting as much as she did! Then it just became downright nasty! And heaven help us if she was in the car with us!

After about two months of this, I decided there had to be something we could do. Our other dog had the occasional dog farts problem, but nothing to the mastiff's degree or smell.

So I finally sucked it up and started asking friends if they had any problems or experience with dog gas (not an easy thing to work into a conversation). None had to that extreme. Finally, I did find a friend (more of an acquaintance) who told me to try changing my dog's diet.

Tip #1: Change Your Dog Food

What did I have to lose? So I changed her dog food to a completely different brand, a premium brand dog food, and my dog's gas problems started getting progressively better.

But her problem did not completely go away.

A month or so later, I saw the acquaintance again and we discussed my dog's gas problem and how she was doing. She suggested I might want to add dog supplements to her dog food, along with a probiotic, if there were not any in the dog supplement.

Tip #2: Add a Good Dog Supplement - preferably one with probiotics or digestive enzymes

The dog supplement helps your dog get and stay healthy. Most commercial dog foods are actually very deficient in good, quality nutrients that your dog needs. Dog supplements fill the gap.

The probiotics help by re-establishing the beneficial bacteria in your dog's intestines. You may heard this referred to as 'gut health'. All sorts of things can make the beneficial bacteria go out of balance, from stress, to illness, to antibiotics (among other things). So the probiotics help restore the balance which helps with digestive problems (digestive problems lead to dog farts, among other things).

Digestive enzymes also help with digestive problems, as well as skin problems and even some allergies. Many beneficial enzymes are destroyed with the high heating used in most processed, commercial dog foods.

So did it help with my dog's gas problem? I honestly could not believe the difference!

Here is my owning ranking on a scale of 100.

• before we started anything: 100
• after 1 week of new dog food: 85
• after 2 weeks of new dog food: 60
• after 3 weeks of new dog food: 50
• after 4 weeks of new dog food: 50

seemed to just stay at this level with just the change to a better dog food. Then I added the dog food supplements.

• after 2 weeks of added dog supplements: 25
• after 4 weeks of added dog supplements: 3

Yes, on my scale of 100, she was down to a 3!!! Every once in a while she still has gas, but it is in no way as lethal as it first was.

And we will keep her on the dog supplements (we have our other dog on them also now) just because they seem to have more energy and their coats are so nice and soft now, not mention no more problems with dog gas!

Just remember, sometimes you have to ask about those problems you really don't want to talk about! If I didn't ask anyone about dog gas, I would still be suffering.
